Bowling with Turkeys

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

‘Twas an honor to participate in the annual Turkey Bowl sponsored by 103.7 The Buzz this week. This was the 7th year of the event, my 3rd year to attend. As my bowling skills are as lovely as Lady GaGa’s fashions, I was already feeling sympathy for the team who got stuck with me as their “local celeb” teammate.  I was down the lanes chatting with colleagues who are also members of Harvesters (Arkansas Foodbank Network’s young professionals group) when I heard my name over the speaker. So I went to meet my team. I couldn’t have asked for a better one.  A group of frat guys. No joke. The four guys are Kappa Sig members/alumni and they were ready for a fun night. And I got nothing but support and cheering the entire time no matter how bad I stunk. I’m just glad I found a bowling ball to match my earrings.

One lane was open to bowl frozen turkeys. Strike? You win a turkey to take home! I tried my hand at it…thankful my family wasn’t counting on my performance to deliver the main course. My turkey didn’t make it but a few feet down the lane.

My hands are getting slimy.

The crowd was loud and happy and talking smack, giving high fives and strutting their stuff. Yep, you can imagine Tommy Smith, Anthony Lucas, Clint Stoerner and many more strutting like…turkeys :) I never got a strike and you can see my disapproval in the picture below by Dewaine Duncan.

Ehhh, what's a strike?

Here are more of his shots from the evening. All in all a great event for a great cause. One of the best parts of it? Getting to hang out with these turkeys, errr, I mean guys who so graciously invite me into their studio every week…to talk Sync, sports, local events and celeb birthday trivia. Though I have yet to prove I’m good at bowling or birthday trivia, they keep letting me come out to play. And that’s something to be thankful for.
